A clearer way to read your YouTube analytics
Understand subscribers, period activity, video counters and reporting delays before comparing YouTube with your other platforms.
Separate channel state from channel activity
A subscriber count tells you where the channel stands now. It does not tell you how many subscribers arrived during a particular week. The same distinction applies to the view, like and comment counters shown on a video: they describe the video’s latest known lifetime total.
To understand a period, use YouTube Analytics data for that period. That is where views, likes, comments, shares and subscriber gains or losses can be tied to calendar days rather than inferred from the latest public counters.
- Subscribers
- Use the latest count for current channel size and gained minus lost subscribers for period movement where YouTube reports it.
- Views and engagement
- Read provider-reported activity for the selected dates instead of subtracting unrelated lifetime totals.
- Video counters
- Use current views, likes and comments to understand each video’s overall position, not as a substitute for weekly activity.
- History
- Compare matching periods once enough daily analytics have been imported and processed.
Recent days may not be ready yet
YouTube Analytics reports calendar days in Pacific Time and can take a day or more to finish processing recent data. A missing Sunday row on Monday morning does not prove that Sunday had zero views.
Read videos in two different ways
Current video counters answer “How has this video performed overall?” Period analytics answer “What happened during these dates?” Both are useful, but they are not interchangeable.
An older video can become the most important video this week if it receives a new wave of views. Looking only at videos published this week would miss that. Conversely, importing an old catalogue should not make every historical view appear as new activity.
Put YouTube beside the rest of your work
YouTube often has the strongest date-range reporting of the three platforms reachd supports. The useful cross-platform comparison is not to force TikTok and Instagram into YouTube’s model, but to show the reliable activity each source can prove and keep its coverage visible.
reachd connects through Google OAuth with read-only YouTube permissions. It can retrieve the channel and analytics data you authorize, but it cannot upload, edit or delete your videos.
